Does food insecurity exist in Lower Merion Township?
With the help of the Nutritional Development Services (NDS) of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, a small geographical area within Lower Merion was identified as containing greater than 50% of children who qualify for free or reduced meals.
Who is NDS?
NDS is an agency of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia within the Secretariat for Catholic Human Services. For forty years, NDS’ mission has been to serve children and those in need with food and food-related resources. NDS accomplishes its mission in two distinct ways: by administering the federally-funded Child Nutrition programs and through the privately supported Community Food Program.
NDS serves roughly 800,000 meals throughout Philadelphia and its surrounding counties during the summer months.
